TRAVEL SOUTH AFRICA – ENJOY A SAFARI NEAR CAPE TOWN
Sanbona, where the famous white Lions of Timbavati can be seen roaming the 54 000ha, wildlife reserve in the Klein (little) Karoo.Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is one of two private wilderness regions in South Africa, also known as one of Africa’s most remarkable eco-friendly wilderness areas.
Sanbona’s three luxury lodges – Dwyka, Tilney Monor and Gondwana is only a three hour drive from Cape Town. Dwyka with 9 luxury tents, featured in this post, is situated in the heart of this reserve in a perfect horseshoe bend, in a dry riverbed, were you’ll be immersed into this majestic landscape. This area is managed with strict wilderness protocols. Dwyka Tented Lodge is surrounded by awe-inspiring rock formations, laid down more than 250 million years ago, and once home to the ancient Khoisan hunters. The lodge with 9 luxury tents has a Relaxation Retreat, communal lounge with fireplace and TV, wine cellar and open air boma.
The Rock art at Sanbona is a legacy of the now extinct /Xam, Bushmen and pastoral Khoe-Khoen herders. There are 7 recorded sites on Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, with paintings dating back to more than 3500 years.
This unique walking experience is ideal for guests looking for an adventurous and authentic option offering an ambience of a tented bush camp. The camp is located in a superbly shaded river line, north east of the reserve and approximately 30 minutes drive from Dwyka Tented Lodge.
This is a flexible experience for guests to experience and explore the Sanbona Karoo as we believe that the rigidity of travel needs to be simplified by going back to basics. This explorer camp reflects the original safari of being on foot and sleeping around the fire at night within the comfort of a mobile tent. Guests will enjoy walks through the magnificent Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, whereby their guide will enhance their experience with birding, cultural history and other natural history of the area.
