Jenna Clifford is often quoted as saying that life’s challenges were the necessary experience that gave her the determination to succeed, and the empathy to make her a lifelong advocate of women’s rights.

In 1992 Jenna Clifford partnered with Dex Kotze; they registered the Jenna Clifford brand and began operating from her home. Kotze, became her life partner and eventually her husband.

In 1994, Clifford and her husband bought a studio in Morningside in Morningside, Sandton, and over time turned it into an elegant head office.

Branding is Clifford’s forte, and it’s in this facet of the business that her character truly shines. From the moment the business got off the ground, customers quickly became enchanted with the Jenna Clifford brand, and with Clifford herself, whose persona remains an intrinsic component of the business. She made each client feel at home and comfortable, spending time with them to create the perfect piece. As she says again and again, every design pays tribute to the client’s individual tastes. But by adding her personal touch to every piece of jewellery, she succeeded in differentiating Jenna Clifford designs from other jewellers’

By 2002, Jenna Clifford Designs’ client list had ballooned and it was time for the company to expand. The first Jenna Clifford Jewellery retail store was opened in the Menlyn Park Lifestyle Emporium in Pretoria. Eight years later, there are also boutique stores in Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton, and Cedar Square, Fourways – both in Johannesburg. Each of these stores is defined by the same personalised concept and signature style seen in the original Morningside studio.
